Burj Khalifa Projection Design Competition – Terms and Conditions

By entering and registering into this competition, participants agree to abide by the following terms and conditions (“T&Cs”):

1. The Organiser

The Organiser is Emaar Properties P.J.S.C. (hereinafter referred to as "Emaar").

2. Eligibility

  1. The competition is open to UAE residents aged 18 and above, except for:
    1. Employees, outsourced staff and temporary staff of Emaar or its subsidiaries and affiliates;
    2. Employees of the contractors, consultants, suppliers and vendors, who on the Opening Date of the competition, are engaged by Emaar;
    3. Members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.
  2. All designs submitted for the competition entries and ancillary documents (“Competition Entries”) may be submitted by individuals or a group; however, only one prize will be awarded per winning entry.
  3. By participating in the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim the prize. Emaar may require the participant to provide proof of identity upon receiving the prize, subject to these T&Cs.

3. Entry Period

  1. The competition will run from 6 May 2025 (the “Opening Date”) to 26 June 2025 (the “Closing Date”).
  2. Emaar reserves the right to extend the competition period or delay the announcement of the winner if no submission meets the required standards determined by Emaar at its sole discretion.

4. Submission Guidelines

  1. All Competition Entries must be submitted to Emaar via opencall@emaar.ae no later than 11:59 PM (Dubai time) on the Closing Date.
  2. Submissions must be sent by email, with files shared via WeTransfer, Dropbox, or Google Drive only.
  3. Participant(s) must provide their name as per UAE ID, email address, and telephone number.
  4. All submissions must be original projection videos or animations with an intended duration of three (3) minutes. The final display duration is subject to Emaar’s discretion, and may be shortened, modified or extended depending on the nature and suitability of the winning content.
  5. The content must be dynamic and visually compelling. All technical specifications (including format, resolution, and projection mapping requirements) must be followed, as outlined at www.burjkhalifa.ae/open-call.

5. Content Restrictions

  1. Emaar will not accept and will immediately disqualify designs that are:
    1. Automatically generated by computer or created by artificial intelligence, including but not limited to chatbots such as ChatGPT or similar software applications;
    2. Completed by third-parties;
    3. Illegible, altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with; and/or
    4. Incomplete.
  2. Submissions must not contain:
    1. Faces or likenesses of real individuals;
    2. Food or beverage imagery;
    3. Any branded, commercial, or promotional content; and/or
    4. Profanity, violence, offensive language, politically sensitive or indecent material.

6. Additional Restrictions

  1. All visuals and animations must be original and music must be copyright-free. Use of third-party copyrighted material will result in disqualification, and Emaar under no circumstances will be liable for the same.
  2. Content must be culturally appropriate, respectful of UAE values, and suitable for a family-friendly audience.

7. Intellectual Property

  1. All Competition Entries will become the property of Emaar on receipt and will not be returned. Other than the prize to be awarded, no royalty or any other compensation shall be paid by Emaar.
  2. By submitting your Competition Entries, you agree to:
    1. Assign absolutely to Emaar all your intellectual property rights held in the Competition Entries with full title guarantee; and
    2. Waive absolutely all moral rights in and to your Competition Entries under UAE federal laws and all legislation worldwide.
  3. The participant agrees that Emaar may, at its sole discretion, make your entry available on all media channels, whether now known or invented in the future, and use, reproduce, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format, license, adapt, publish, and display the intellectual property rights in the entry across all media platforms, including the Burj Khalifa projection and digital channels.
  4. Selected entrants may be contacted by Emaar for potential adjustments or refinements.
  5. The selected winner must provide the open project files of the artwork to Emaar upon request.

8. Judging & Winner Selection

  1. Entries will be evaluated based on creativity, originality, impact, and technical feasibility. The final decision is at the sole discretion of Emaar and is not subject to appeal.
  2. Emaar reserves the right to select no winner if entries are deemed unsuitable or fall short of expectations.
  3. Emaar reserves the right to disqualify submissions that violate these T&Cs, fail to meet specifications, include prohibited content, or contain plagiarised/copyrighted material.
  4. Emaar may extend the evaluation period or allow additional submissions if needed.

9. Winner Announcement

  1. The winner will be announced via a Story on the @emaardubai and @burjkhalifa Instagram accounts on July 14, 2025, and contacted directly.
  2. The announcement date may be adjusted if no winner is selected during the initial judging period.
  3. If the winner cannot be contacted or does not respond within five (5) working days, Emaar reserves the right to withdraw the prize and select an alternative winner or withhold the prize entirely.

10. Prize

  1. The selected winner will receive a cash prize of AED 100,000.
  2. The winning design will be projected on the façade of the Burj Khalifa on a date determined by Emaar.
  3. The prize is non-transferable and non-negotiable.
  4. The winner must undergo verification and provide valid identification and bank details.
  5. The cash prize may be issued via cheque or bank transfer, subject to Emaar’s confirmation.
  6. Any transfer fees, bank charges, or additional costs related to the prize payment shall be borne by the winner.

11. Liability & Responsibility

  1. Emaar is not responsible for:
    1. Late, lost, misdirected, or incomplete submissions;
    2. Copyright issues or unauthorised use of content by participants;
    3. Technical difficulties impacting the submission or projection.
  2. Participants are solely responsible for the legality and originality of their entries.
  3. Emaar will not accept:
    1. Responsibility for corrupted or delayed submissions due to technical issues;
    2. Designs containing viruses, malware, or spyware.
  4. Emaar will not be liable for loss, damage, personal injury, or death resulting from participation or failure to claim the prize.
  5. Emaar will not be responsible for failure to claim the prize due to inaccurate contact details.

12. Data Privacy

  1. By participating, participants consent to Emaar using their personal data for the competition, including publishing winner names.
  2. Personal data will be used solely for competition purposes and per Emaar’s privacy policy.

13. General

  1. If there is a breach of these T&Cs, Emaar may disqualify the participant.
  2. Emaar reserves the right to amend these T&Cs or cancel the competition at any time.
  3. Participation constitutes full acceptance of these T&Cs.
  4. In case of translation, the English version will prevail.
  5. These T&Cs are governed by Dubai law and subject to the jurisdiction of Dubai Courts (DIFC laws excluded).
