Burj Khalifa Projection Design Competition – Terms and Conditions

By entering and registering into this competition, participants agree to abide by the following terms and conditions (“T&Cs”):

1. The Organiser

- The Organiser is Emaar Properties P.J.S.C (hereinafter referred to as "Emaar").

2. Eligibility

1. The competition is open to all individuals, whether residing in the UAE or abroad, aged 18 and above, except for:

(a) employees, outsourced staff and temporary staff of Emaar or its subsidiaries and affiliates;

(b) employees of the contractors, consultants, suppliers and vendors, who on the Opening Date of the competition, are engaged by Emaar; and

(c) members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.

2. All designs submitted for the competition entries and ancillary documents (“Competition Entries”) may be submitted by individuals or a group.

3. By participating in the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so.
3. Entry Period

1. The competition will run from 8 July 2026 (the “Opening Date”) to 18 August 2026 (the “Closing Date”).

2. Emaar reserves the right to extend the competition period or delay the announcement of the winner if no submission meets the required standards determined by Emaar at its sole discretion.

4. Submission Guidelines

1. All Competition Entries must be submitted to Emaar via [email protected] no later than 11:59 PM (Dubai time) on the Closing Date.

2. Submissions must be sent by email, with files shared via WeTransfer, Dropbox, or Google Drive only.

3. Participant(s) must provide their full legal name as per UAE ID/passport, email address and telephone number.

4. All submissions must be original projection videos or animations with an intended duration of three (3) minutes. The final display duration is subject to Emaar’s discretion, and may be shortened, modified or extended depending on the nature and suitability of the winning content.

5. The content must be dynamic and visually compelling.
All technical specifications (including format, resolution, and projection mapping requirements) must be followed, as outlined at www.burjkhalifa.ae/open-call.

5. Content Restrictions

1. Emaar will not accept and will immediately disqualify designs that are:

(i) automatically generated by computer or created by artificial intelligence, including but not limited to chatbots such as ChatGPT or similar software applications;

(ii) completed by third-parties;

(iii) illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with; and/or

(iv) incomplete.

2. Submissions must not contain:

(i) faces or likenesses of real individuals;

(ii) food or beverage imagery;

(iii) any branded, commercial, or promotional content; and/or

(iv) profanity, violence, offensive language, politically sensitive or indecent material.

6. Additional restrictions

1. All visuals and animations must be original and music must be copyright-free. Use of third-party copyrighted material will result in disqualification and Emaar under no circumstances will be liable for the same.

2. Content must be culturally appropriate, respectful of UAE values, and suitable for a family-friendly audience.

7. Intellectual Property

1. All Competition Entries will become the property of Emaar on receipt and will not be returned. No royalty or any other compensation whatsoever shall be paid by Emaar to any participants whomsoever in connection with or in respect of the Competition Entries and their appropriation by Emaar.

2. By submitting your Competition Entries, you agree to:

(a) assign absolutely to Emaar all your intellectual property rights held in the Competition Entries with full title guarantee; and

(b) waive absolutely all moral rights in and to your Competition Entries and otherwise arising in connection with your Competition Entries, to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled to under the UAE federal laws (as amended from time to time) and under all legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.

3. The participant agrees that Emaar may, in their sole discretion, make your entry available on all media channels, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. By submitting an entry, participants acknowledge and agree that Emaar shall have all rights worldwide and in perpetuity to use, reproduce, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format, license, adapt, publish, and display the intellectual property rights in the competition entry across all media platforms, including the Burj Khalifa projection and digital channels.

4. Selected entrants may be contacted by Emaar for potential adjustments or refinements to ensure alignment with technical and brand requirements.

5. The selected winner must provide the open project files of the artwork to Emaar upon request.

8. Judging & Winner Selection

1. Competition Entries will be evaluated based on creativity, originality, impact, and technical feasibility. The final decision is entirely at the discretion of Emaar and is not subject to appeal.

2. Emaar reserves the right to select no winner if entries are deemed unsuitable or fall short of expectations.

3. Emaar reserves the right to disqualify any submission that violates these T&Cs and/or fails to meet technical specifications, includes prohibited content, or is found to contain plagiarised or copyrighted material.

4. Emaar may, at its discretion, extend the evaluation period and delay the winner announcement in the event of a high volume of entries or if no entry meets the required standards. This extension may also allow for the submission of additional Competition Entries.

1. Winner Announcement

2. The winner will be announced via a Story on the @emaardubai and @burjkhalifa Instagram accounts, and contacted directly through the details provided in the submission.

3. Please note that the announcement date may be adjusted if no winner is selected during the initial judging period.

4. The winning design will be projected on the façade of the Burj Khalifa (totally or partially) on a date determined by Emaar at its sole discretion.

9. Liability & Responsibility

1. Emaar is not responsible for:
a) late, lost, misdirected, or incomplete submissions;
b) any issues related to copyright or unauthorised use of content by participants; and/or
c) technical difficulties impacting the submission or projection of the winning design.
2. Participants are solely responsible for the legality and originality of their entries.

3. Emaar will not accept:

a) responsibility for Competition Entries that are corrupted, not successfully completed or transmitted, lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including but not limited to, equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, website, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or

b) designs in file format containing viruses, malware and/or spyware.

4. Emaar, its employees and agents will not under any circumstances be liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of participating in the competition.

10. Data Privacy

1. By participating in this competition, the participants consent Emaar to use their personal data to the extent necessary for the effective conduct of the competition, including publishing the names of the winner(s) without prior notice.

2. Personal data collected during submission will only be used for purposes related to this competition and in accordance with Emaar’s privacy policy.

11. General

1. If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these T&Cs, Emaar may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to disqualify the participant from the competition.

2. Emaar reserves the right to amend these T&Cs or cancel the competition at any time without prior notice and without any liability whatsoever.

3. Participation in the competition constitutes full acceptance of these T&Cs.

4. These T&Cs have been drafted in the English language. In the event of any translation of these T&Cs or any part thereof into Arabic or any other language, the same shall continue to be construed and interpreted according to the English language version, which shall therefore prevail in the event of any conflict.

5. These T&Cs are governed by the laws of the Emirate of Dubai and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Dubai Courts (DIFC laws and courts are excluded).
